# Maindex

## What is Maindex?

Maindex is a multi-tenant memory service — a knowledge graph that any
model, agent, or tool can read and write via standard protocols (MCP and REST).
We support OAuth 2.1 and API key authentication.

We care strongly about data sovereignty: your data belongs to you.
You can export and/or purge your data at any time.
(Sorry, agents — there's extra authentication on that.)

We offer two MCP servers. Choose the one that fits your workflow.

  Full memory management with ~20 tools for granular control over
  memories, collections, associations, sessions, tags, and search.

- Smart MCP: https://maindex.io/mcp
  Four streamlined tools (keep, recall, update, forget) backed by an
  intelligent pipeline that handles tagging, deduplication, and
  organization automatically. Plugs directly into many existing systems
  and offers very nice advantages if you'd prefer your model not focus
  on memory storage details.

## Authentication
